The Battle of Meewah (September 12, 1843) was part of the frontier wars, the battle for land that took place across our vast continent. It was significant because it demonstrated great courage and valour as well as diplomacy.
Some years ago a local group initiated an annual commemoration on the date of the battle. It is attended by teachers and students from many of the local schools as well as the general public. This year, because 12 September is a Saturday, the commemoration will be on Friday, 11 September.
